The discovery was made shortly after 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 17, in Albany County at Cohoes’ Heart Avenue Park, located near Heartt and Park avenues.
Cohoes Police said the 32-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene.
His body showed no obvious signs of trauma and there was no indication of foul play, according to investigators.
On Friday, Aug. 18, police told Daily Voice that an autopsy had been completed and the cause of death was determined to be a fentanyl overdose.
Fentanyl is a powerful, synthetic opioid that is nearly 100 times stronger than morphine. Experts say the drug is responsible for a rise in overdose deaths across the United States in recent years.
Police are withholding the man’s name until his family has been notified.
